The NSLOA would like to extend a Happy New Year to all our officials and to announce the 2025 NSLOA Executive Board.
At the NSLOA November 2024 AGM, a new executive board was voted in. For the 2025 year, the NSLOA board will consist of Chris Soucie as President, Morgan Faircloth as Vice President, Matthew Marty as Treasurer, Dylan McMullen as Member-at-Large and Faythe Lohnes as Secretary.
We also would like to take this opportunity to introduce a little bio on each of our board members.
Chris Soucie - President
Chris grew up in Moncton, NB, where he began playing and officiating lacrosse in the Codiac Storm Lacrosse Association's inaugural season in 2002. Having played his Junior lacrosse career split between Ontario and the East Coast, he then began playing Senior in Montreal and eventually came to Halifax, where he still plays goalie for the Halifax Hustle in the Nova Scotia Senior Lacrosse League. He also played the field game in the Maritime University Field Lacrosse League for the St. FX X-MEN and now officiates within the league travelling to all the 6 universities across the Maritimes in MUFLL. With over 23 years experience, lacrosse has given him several opportunities to participate in several National Championships as a player, coach and official, most recently this past summer officiating at the 2024 Founders Cup (Junior B National Championship) in Hamilton, ON.
Morgan Faircloth - Vice President
I first picked up the stick at the age of 5, and have been passionate about lacrosse ever since. The moment I became eligible to officiate, I enrolled, and I am now entering my 15th year as an official. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of officiating at two minor box lacrosse nationals and the first ever Canada Games Women’s Box Lacrosse Championship. Additionally, I serve as the Official-in-Chief for the East Coast Junior Lacrosse League (F), a role I’ve held since the league’s inaugural season in 2022. Most recently, I expanded my involvement by joining the field lacrosse sector. I am honoured to step into the role of Vice President for the NSLOA. Our new board is excited to build on the foundation of success and continue supporting the growth of our officials and the game we all love. I look forward to another great season of lacrosse and working alongside all our incredible officials!
Matthew Marty - Treasurer
Matthew grew up in Maple Ridge, BC, playing lacrosse from a young age up until intermediate level and has been officiating for 12 years. He recently moved to Halifax earlier in 2024, and started officiating in NS this past June. He officiated in his first national tournament this year in Calgary, AB at the U17 & U19 Field Nationals. As well Matthew officiated numerous NSFLL and MUFLL games this past field season.
Dylan McMullen - Member-At-Large
My name is Dylan McMullen and I am from Cole Harbour. I’ve played lacrosse for 15 years and I’m currently playing in the ECJLL. I have officiated for 6 years. I’ve attended two national championships, one in Langley, BC and one in Regina, SK, officiating medal games at both. I also had the opportunity to officiate at NAIG when it was held in Halifax in 2023. I took on a role of supporting the NSLOA in mentorship and development and am looking forward to continuing to support our growth with the NSLOA.
Faythe Lohnes - Secretary
Though never having played lacrosse, or officiating the game, since 2015 I have used my professional administration skills to be support for a Junior league team (support, Treasurer), as well as for the East Coast Junior Lacrosse League (Social Media, current Secretary), and the Nova Scotia Field Lacrosse League (minor official, Secretary and current Commissionaire). Being able to translate my professional skills into volunteering within our lacrosse community has led me to Secretary of the NSLOA where I look forward to providing support to this board and all our officials.
The NSLOA would also like to take this opportunity to thank Brendon Smithson and Bryce Mayea who guided the board in 2024 in the role of President and to Brian Mackintosh who, for the last few years, has taken on the role of Treasurer.
